15-P033 Development and evolution of vertebrate electroreceptors

چکیده
extant limpet. In addition, bivalves also acquired a novel structure, adducter muscle to close the separated shell plate. Because the two novel structures, the separated shell plate and the adducter muscle appear early embryonic stage, their evolution should be understood as a modification of early development. To understand the evolution of bivalve bodyplan, we have traced the cleavage pattern of the Japanese purple mussel, Septifer virgatus. We found that the stereotypic cleavage pattern of shell plate precursor cells were observed in this species, suggesting that the cleavage pattern itself is tightly regulated because it is essential for the development of bivalve bodyplan. We also observed the expression pattern of dpp homolog which is involved in shell formation in gastropod. In addition, we observed the development of novel cell population of adductor muscle by using some molecular markers.

The evolution and development of vertebrate lateral line electroreceptors.
Electroreception is an ancient vertebrate sense with a fascinating evolutionary history involving multiple losses as well as independent evolution at least twice within teleosts. We review the phylogenetic distribution of electroreception and the morphology and innervation of electroreceptors in different vertebrate groups. We summarise recent work from our laboratory that has confirmed the hom...
متن کاملChapter 41 - Electroreceptors and Magnetoreceptors
Many animals have the ability to detect electric and magnetic fields. Although many species respond and orient to magnetic stimuli, only recently were putative vertebrate receptor systems identified. All organisms generate weak electric fields in water, due to an uneven distribution of ions between the interior of the organism and the external aqueous environment. Ampullary electroreceptors are...

Background: Androgen receptor (AR) plays a critical role in prostate cancer and male sexual differentiation.Mechanisms by which AR acts and regulations of AR nucleocytoplasmic shuttling are not understood well. Materials and Methods: Degenerate PCR and RACE Cloning of AR Gene; Phylogenetic Analysis and Molecular Modeling;Real-time Fluorescent Quantitative RT-PCR; Northern Blot Hybridization; In ...

Several studies have begun to elucidate the genetic and developmental processes underlying major vertebrate traits. Few of these traits have evolved repeatedly in vertebrates, preventing the analysis of molecular mechanisms underlying these traits comparatively. Electric organs have evolved multiple times among vertebrates, presenting a unique opportunity to understand the degree of constraint ...

evolved at least twice independently in various teleosts [Bullock et al., 1983]. Recently published insights into lateral line development [Modrell et al., 2011] now provide important new clues for reconstructing the developmental changes underlying some of these evolutionary modifications. Embryonically, the receptor organs of the lateral line are thought to originate from a group of lateral l...
